The fortunate player has been using the same combination of numbers for the last three decades
A fortunate Adelaide, Australia resident had a sleepless Saturday night this weekend after realizing that her AU$1,000 ($646) lottery win was in fact an AU$1 million ($646,700). The lucky Hallet Cove woman, whose name was not disclosed, was one out of five division one winners from Saturday X Lotto’s 4491 draw on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Each of the fortunate winners secured a payout of exactly AU$1,044,169 ($676,579). One ticket was purchased by the fortunate player in Western Australia and South Australia, while three winning tickets were bought in Victoria.
The lucky Adelaide resident’s ticket was purchased at Campbell’s Newsagency, Shop 2 & 3, Hallett Cove Shopping Centre, 246 Lonsdale Road in Hallet Cove. Saturday X Lotto’s winning numbers from draw 4491 included 10, 11, 12, 13, 41 and 45, along with supplementary numbers 28 and 40.
When asked what she plans to do with her winnings, the Hallett Cove woman said she considers changing her car. At the same time, the lucky winner said that she plans to save some of the money for her retirement.
Although interesting, the latest win isn’t the first time a lottery player mistakes a massive win for a much smaller payout.
Last month, a Newcastle woman thought that her AU$1 million ($646,700) win was only AU$1,000 ($646), in a similar case to the most recent win. The winner secured one out of five division one entries from Saturday Lotto’s 4487 draw.
Having a Favorite Combination of Numbers Pays Out
The woman who recently won AU$1,044,169 ($676,579) said she has been playing with the same set of numbers for approximately 30 years. The Hallet Cove woman admitted that she picked those numbers the first time she filled out a coupon and decided that she would only play with that combination.
According to the fortunate woman, she has scored wins before but no million-dollar prizes. “I’m glad the numbers came up while I can still enjoy the prize,” she explained.
The winner said that she was checking her ticket around 10:30 PM on Saturday. She initially thought that she had won only AU$1,000 ($646). However, looking at the number, she thought that something was wrong. She spoke to a family member and was shocked to realize that the win was in fact AU$1 million ($646,700).
